We are pleased to announce that the Department of State's Bureau of Consular Affairs has completely redesigned its website: http://travel.state.gov. Travel.State.Gov is already one of the most popular government websites. You may have used it yourself to obtain information about US government services for Americans overseas. We are pleased to announce that it is now better than ever with an enhanced appearance and functionality that will better serve Americans who live or travel overseas.
A new and important feature of the enhanced website is secure online registration, which allows American citizens to record foreign trip and residence information that we can use to provide our services. On a routine basis, we use the registrations to communicate information about living overseas as an American (for example, updates on absentee voting or passport procedures) as well as security notices. In an emergency, the registration information would be vital in helping us assist Americans residing in, or visiting St. Petersburg.
Americans around the world who travel or reside abroad can access this site either through a link on Travel.State.Gov, or directly, at https://travelregistration.state.gov/ibrs. If you received this email directly from us, you are registered with us and we will be maintaining that registration for some time. However, we invite you to re-register yourself and your family on the new system and use this new system to update your registration as you change contact information.
If you are not registered with us, we invite you to do so through this new system. And we invite any short-term travelers to Russia to also register using this new system. It will let us know who is in Russia at any given time so that we can contact them in an emergency.
Registration also links Americans to up-to-date travel information customized to their unique travel agendas and itineraries. The data provide is secured behind Department of State firewalls, accessed only by cleared personnel in embassies, consulates, and the Department of State, and releasable only with permission under the provisions of the Privacy Act.
Please let us know how you like the new site. If you encounter any difficulties or have any questions about our travel registration website, please send an e-mail to CAIbrs@state.gov. If you have specific questions about your registration with the American Consulate General in St. Petersburg, Russia, please contact us at acsstpete@state.gov.
