U.S. Department of Energy, St. Petersburg Office
The U.S. Department of Energy St. Petersburg Office (DOE-St. Petersburg) was established in 2004 to support the efforts of the Embassy Moscow DOE office in implementing the Department of Energy’s and the National Nuclear Security Administration’s (NNSA) nonproliferation and energy programs, particularly in Northwest Russia.
DOE-St. Petersburg works closely with our Russian counterparts at regional branches of the State Atomic Energy Corporation (Rosatom), the Russian Navy, and the Russian Academy of Sciences located in St. Petersburg, Leningrad Oblast, Murmansk and Arkhangelsk regions in support of NNSA's nonproliferation programs.
DOE-St. Petersburg also supports DOE initiatives on the US-Russian energy dialog by maintaining contacts with regional administrations and businesses in such resource-rich regions as Murmansk and Arkhangelsk, and the Nenets Autonomous Okrug. Potential oil, gas and liquefied natural gas exports from these regions are topics of the on-going discussions.
DOE-St. Petersburg provides a logistical and information support base for visiting DOE/NNSA delegations and personnel traveling to Northwest Russia on DOE-related business.
